Weekend Recap

SATURDAY:

Ava was invited to a friends 1st birthday party - Renaissance was the theme, and there were knight helmets, swords and tiny turkey legs! Very cute :)

Here are a few pics:

All the girls had fun in the JUMP-N-BOUNCE thingy

EXCEPT Grace, who was too little to jump :(

SUNDAY:
When we bought our home 5 years ago, the previous owner had planted 7 crepe myrtle trees along the fence and 5 big trees in the backyard, itself. Those 5 big trees were awesome and shaded our entire yard and now 2 of the 5 are dead as a door nail. This makes me very upset. The willow was flowy and beautiful until 2 years ago when half of it died and the other half struggled for a few months then finally succumbed to it's fate. We had a memorial service then sawed the thing down. The same thing happened to the Ash tree last year. Terry sawed off the major limb that died (which of course supported Ava's swing) then the rest perished. As of now, a dozen leaves are dangling from the tree and the rest is just dead. I always give Terry a hard time when he talks about chopping it down. I am not really sure why though. Maybe it's because I would rather have a dead, leaf-less tree standing bare in the yard, with my pretty flowers planted underneath, then a stump we have to pump full of poison in order to rot the wood before we can lay grass back down. Terry finally stopped letting me have my way, and the tree came down. In the long run, it will be beneficial for the yard, pretty grass will replace it. There is a reason for this story: Terry used Weed-N-Feed several years ago, and it's taken its toll. This product is not safe for use under tree canopies, and unless you read the very fine print, you won't know that. Thank the Lord none of our trees out front are dying, and the others in the back are alive and well. Read the labels on your lawn products!

One last pic: Grace found a spot on the ladder and held on holding her sippy cup, surveying the activities. Too cute.

Sorry to hear about your loss. I have a tree that I need cut down too. It's not dead - it is just SUPER ugly. Maybe I should come get your Weed and Feed ;-)
